There’s something wonderfully and unescapably wonderful about Helios Helas by 3615 Nuits Blanches, not least the fact that the lyrics are entirely French – a real weakness of mine. Have a listen!
It comes from the Parisian duo’s Confession Intime EP, itself the follow up to their debut 2017 album, When About Last Night.
The track is a sublime electro-disco ballad, swirly and moody, arpeggios lifting the song and soul higher as every second passes. Antonine’s vocals remined me of Jane Birkin in their breathy softness, whilst the arrangement is bound to grab hold of those with a weakness for the recent music of Charlotte Gainsbourg.
It’s a cliché to talk about the natural French flair for seemingly effortless sophistication and class, but it’s the best way to describe Helios Helas, as it shimmers like the Riviera sun.
Helios Helas and Confession Intime are out now via L.O.V.E. Ltd. – you can pick up a limited edition CD over on their Bandcamp page. You can also find out more about the band on Instagram and Twitter.
