Berlin resident Andrew Applepie is becoming a regular visitor to the blog with his inventive instrumentation and similarly creative music. Following on from recent release Capricorn he’s back with the fragile but fearless Fridays For Future.
Quietly political and recognising that you don’t have to shout to be heard, the folk-anthem passages of the track segue into heart-rending strings and a simple repetitive chorus: ‘Do you think we can be better?‘ which is sadly answered with the refain: ‘No, I don’t think so’. But the message of hope in the song is clear, if you want to hear it – which is probably the point he is subtly making.
Always one with a deep sense of irony, he had this to say about the song: “I skipped a Friday to make this tune and possibly capitalize on a youth movement so I can get me a nice car later on. Please recycle.”
