Voices by Israeli singer-songwriter BAVAT is a curious little gem of a song – inside its superficially frothy electropop surface is an affecting tale of heartache, which her voice sells to great effect.

With a sound that crosses the bouncy pop/soul of Ariana Grande with subtle shades of Daft Punk and warm yet wonky, fuzzy electro vibe, there’s a lot of substance to the melody and arrangement; but it’s the vocal that really enables the song to get under your skin.

Rich and bright in the face of dealing with the pain, not of being rejected but finding the other person has moved on without you even knowing or even coming to terms with the breakup, it echoes classic country or girl group songs, drawing the listener into empathising with the story’s protagonist through every sad and soulful word, every upbeat twist and turn of her voice.
