New Music: Belako – Maskenfreiheit
Basque country post-punk band Belako got under our skin with the dark sound and the Bergmanesque video for their Maskenfreiheit track – what do you think?
Though the video pulls no punches (or scale – it has a cast of 50!), there’s a real feeling of restrained passion and anger pervading Maskenfreiheit. It’s glossy, droning exterior generally hiding the overall emotion of the song – over for it to occasionally spill out in glorious revolt as dreampop and daydreams get a rude and raw awakening.
The track comes from Render Me Numb, Trivial Violence, their third LP which saw them tie up with Primavera Sound’s in-house label El Segell – a real indication of the band’s quality.
Having recently played London alongside artists like Liam Gallagher, Queens of the Stone Age and Two Door Cinema Club; Belako will embark on a mini-tour of the UK this September, with dates in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham. We’ve already got our tickets for the Manchester gig!
Maskenfreiheit and Render Me Numb, Trivial Violence are out now, you can stream them on Spotify and all major digital outlets. For more info why not head over to Facebook and Twitter accounts.
