New Music: bow church – Oath

Berlin is a renowned centre for all things electronic, attracting musicians from Europe and beyond to its permissive musical and cultural milieu. A mainstay of the Berlin alt.electronic scene is Dave Whiting, who releases music in various guises, one of the best known being bow church. Oath is the latest single from bow church and there’s a Berry De Jong directed video to accompany the track – check it out below.

From its initial icy opening, Oath grabs the listeners attention, setting the scene for a track that rumbles ominously – at times the bass would put My Bloody Valentine to shame, its sheer force lightened by ethereal female vocals and arpeggios that dare you to dance. Infused with elements of techno, trance and synthwave, Oath is already a strong contender for one of my tracks of the year.

Oath is out now, streaming on Spotify as well as Soundcloud – be sure to check out the amazing Sidewalks and Skeletons remix and will also feature on the upcoming Canon album, which I’ve been lucky enough to hear and I can tell you that it promises to be a real sonic treat for electronica fans. The album is due out on 19th January and is currently available to pre-order on Bandcamp.
