Americans Brevin Kim (Cal and Bren Paulhus) from Boston say they have a taste in music that encompasses Van Morrison, Chicago, Bon Iver, as well as hip-hop like acts Ski Mask The Slump God and Young Thug. Listen below to find out how that filters through to their own sound on he doesn’t love her.
The song was released as a double header with i need water and is full of invention and imagination. Rock guitars and mellow beats underpin a heart-wrenching vocal that that comes across as part Cloud Hop, part Emo, and wholly genuine in its emotions. The song does take a lot from the past, yet combines those elements into a very futuristic sound.
Speaking about the song, Bren says, “The track is about the polarization of a relationship. It’s the embodiment of ‘you don’t know what you got til it’s gone. One day you could be head over heels for someone and the next you want nothing to do with them. Moods can change in minutes. Feelings don’t always stay the same. It’s the scary reality that love isn’t always equal. I believe some of the best songs write themselves in a way and this one just oozed out of me.”
