New Music: Chelsey and the Noise – Depth Denying (Underwater)

  • New Music: Chelsey and the Noise - Depth Denying (Underwater)

Californians Chelsey and the Noise have received a great reception for their dark blend of noir electro and rock on their recent Blank Frames EP, which is no great surprise when you listen to one of the highlights, Depth Denying (Underwater).

You could call it electro-rock with a flair for the dramatic, channelling Kate Bush, Evanescence and Sopor Aeternus in equal measure, feeling almost claustrophobic in its manifold layers of emotions and meanings.

At just under five minutes the track manages to create a dark and dystopian world of its own, unsettling yet alluring, like a classic horror movie – knowing you might not like what is around the corner doesn’t stop your looking. Depth Denying (Underwater) shares that quality in spades as synths and guitars duel to be the object of Chelsey Hice’s affections.

Depth Denying (Underwater) and the Blank Frames EP can be streamed on Spotify, Bandcamp and Soundcloud.
