New Music: Covered in Snow – Spaceboy

  • New Music: Covered in Snow - Spaceboy

Spaceboy is the debut release from Swedes Covered in Snow. The duo, comprising of Mikael Engström and Tom Hedlund, has a long musical pedigree with both having been members of the now defunct synthpop group Shallow Sense. Part of a two-track single, along with Pour Me One More and has echoes of Muse and IAMX but with a personal, less bombastic feel.

The brass-infused track just enchants from its opening, with military style drumming providing the contradictory sense of being anchored whilst waves of synths and a choir-like vocal induces a dreamlike fugue in the listener; inviting comparisons with the likes of Grizzly Bear.

Spaceboy is a far cry from the emotive synthpop of Shallow Sense, but has all the essential hallmarks of their previous work – melodic, catchy and above all, very, very good!

Spaceboy is out now, streaming on Spotify and Soundcloud. You can find out more about downloading the single on the bands’ website.
