We’re big fans of Cub Sport, and we’ve particularly enjoyed the documentation of the vagaries of love on tracks such as Hearts In Halves, which we covered in December. With a new album Like Nirvana on the way, the group has dropped the delectable dreampop of Drive – check out the video (and cute dog!) below.
The track is redolent of some the best moments of 80s and 90s pop and indie sounds, and that point where the two crossed over. The lyrics are a rush of emotion and honesty. At the same time, the song weaves its way through indie, electropop, and even 80s rock as it reflects shimmering, glistening glimpses of love. The Brisbane band has never sounded better.
Tim Nelson from the band had this to say about the song: “Recognising the magic of life while it’s happening is something really special and that’s what Drive is to me; capturing that feeling. It’s a love song saying, ‘You’re a dream and I still can’t believe you give a damn about me.’ There’s a purity to Drive that gives me the same warm feeling I get from Cocteau Twins’ Cherry-coloured Funk, Cyndi Lauper’s True Colours, and Mazzy Star’s Fade Into You. It feels like the type of song that soundtracks a particular moment or time in your life.”
Drive is out now and the Like Nirvana album is up now for pre-order, with a release date of the 24th of July. Be sure to check the band out over on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to keep up with news about them and the album
