New Music: Cub Sport – Good Guys Go

  • New Music: Cub Sport - Good Guys Go

Brisbane quartet Cub Sport have gained great acclaim for their sumptuous and elegant blending of classic 80s R&B, synthpop and soul into a sensual and at times overtly sexual love potion. Think Prince producing Empire of the Sun and that’s a hint of the delicious sound the band serves up on new track Good Guys Go.

Lead singer and songwriter Tim Nelson channels Prince and Justin Timberlake at their pheromonal best, yet subverting their sometimes empty sexual posturing with lyrics that take a critical look at love and relationships. With an arrangement that is smooth and seductive but with a hint of danger, Good Guys Go is a song about love, rather than a love song.

Speaking about the track, lead singer Tim Nelson explained to The Fader; “I wrote Good Guys Go about an imbalanced relationship where emotional labour was going unrecognised. I saw the toll this cycle took, where one person was continually working so much harder than the other to keep the relationship afloat. I hope this song offers some sort of comfort to people who have felt the same”.

Good Guys Go is out now and features on the band’s BATS album which is available to stream on Spotify and Deezer as well as to download on all major digital stores. The band will be touring Australia over the next few months, to be followed by a string of dates in North America and Europe.
