The River is the latest single from Scottish Indie/Electronic producer Edwin Organ. He cites the likes of LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip as influences, but one listen lets you know there’s a lot more going on here.
The song invites favourable comparisons with legendary Scottish acts like Orange Juice and Aztec Camera. The vocals have a lovelorn, slightly wry tone to them, as if Organ has lived the lyrics himself. Though it has a very pop sensibility, it still plays about with the standard pop formula. Quirky beats and skittering rhythms catch you unawares on occasions, even when you know they’re coming, which fits the overall theme of the song to perfection.
Speaking about the song, he says, “The River is a song about love and mistakes. As humans, we get caught up in a lot of things. Distractions can really get us in a pickle and its worse when hindsight presents us with all the signs we missed, clear as day.”
