With its retro and softened motorik tones, driving beats and ethereal, and pop sensibility, duo Fröst’s new single Record Still Spinning has echoes of Stereolab, Silver Apples and Kraftwerk. There’s a good reason for that but first, check out the track and see what you think.
Fröst is a collaboration between French-Swedish sound artist Johanna Bramli (vocalist for Stereolab offshoot Imitation Electric Piano) and Fujiya & Miyagi’s synth player and producer Steve Lewis. You can hear some of their previous work reflected in the pacing and arrangement of the track.
But there’s a languid, if not louche air to Record Still Spinning, as Bramli’s bewitching vocals sound angelic but feel like a call to sin. Humming, spinning and weaving a web courtesy of the subtle electronic and pulsating bass, it is a guilty but very enjoyable pleasure.
Record Still Spinning is out now and will feature on the duo’s upcoming album Matters which is due for release on 28th September via Lost Room Records.
