Los Angeles based Gothic Tropic (aka Cecilia Victoria) has a sound that is neither gothic nor tropic, but the New Jersey native really knows how to pack a subtle yet effective punch on recent release Drunk on a Rhythm.
It’s a warm and engaging sound, mixing 70s LA soft rock and early 80s New Wave with mellow electronica and soothing vocal layers. Exploring as it does the emotional ups and downs that come from (ending) relationships, it still makes for easy and enjoyable listen. Victoria has cited acts such as The Police, David Bowie, Prince and Television as influences and you can pick up on that in the way the song marries pop hooks and a darker narrative with ease.
Cecilia Victoria had this to say about the song; “Drunk on a Rhythm is the first single off my upcoming record, which I’ve been working on over the last year. The song’s theme is on my most recent breakup. Releasing Drunk on a Rhythm first is my way of being generous to myself; helping me heal from betrayal, accepting joy, and moving on.”
