New Music: Handsome – Late Night Ball Game feat. Joyride

HANDSOME is the new project of Australian performer Caitlin Park, and her latest track sees her work with the wonderful Joyride. From its opening sample from Streetwise, Late Night Ball Game is a statement of intent in musical form, mellow beats and earnest lyrics setting out her stall as a queer artist. It’s sometimes anthemic, sometimes personal feel echoes the difficult journey many of us have to make in order to be who we are, but shows that there will be someone with us as we take the hardest steps.

Caitlin says of Late Night Ball Game: “A little over a year and a half ago, Joyride and I pieced this song together. Late Night Ball Game is a song that is so close to my heart because it so captures what it is like to be stuck in your own head when you’re deeply worried about having to reveal a secret to someone you love. It follows the story of a person coming out to their friends, their family, their loved ones.”

The film clip follows a group friends, representative of the closeness of the queer community. They bring each other strength, support and the power to be themselves – despite what the world throws at them. In a series of narratives, the video wades through real experiences. Inspired by 1982 documentary Streetwise and with stylised with nods to films like This Is England and Empire Records, the clip reimagines the gang youth of the 80s and 90s – further depicting the rejection of equality, and queer revolution.

The track is out now, and you can find out more about streaming or downloading Late Night Ball Game and viewing the video here.  HANDSOME’S debut EP NO HAT NO PLAY will be out in 2018 via Dot Dash / Remote Control.
