Danish duo IRAH (Stine Grøn on lead and backing vocals, Adi Zukanović on synths) have teamed up with drummer Sebastian Rochford (Polar Bear, Patti Smith, Brian Eno) on Siu Hinama, which is a delicious taster for their new album.

The track, which will feature on their Diamond Grid album (now up for pre-order on Bandcamp) opens with a cinematic flair, sweeping and epic, even before the vocals come in. The vocals don’t break the mood either, rather they enhance it by layering on an array of pre-industrial vocal flourishes and filigrees. If you love the music of Dead Can Dance and Cocteau Twins, then this is sure to appeal, tempered as it is with the occasional rock, esoteric and electronic nuances.

Grøn describes Siu Hinama is an evocative, energetic track with its own language. Stine Grøn elaborates: “Siu Hinama occurred through vocalistic sound meditations. The song never felt right with lyrics and therefore we decided to just let the words or word-sounds be as they were.”

Siu Hinama is out now and can also be streamed on Spotify. The parent album Diamond Grid will be released on May 24th on Copenhagen’s Tambourhinoceros.
