New Music: Kayls – Summer

Summer is the debut single from LA electro-pop artist Kayls and is an assured and confident one at that! Taking elements from the current chart trend for hook-filled upbeat sounds and strong choruses, it eschews the more obvious pop route but instead takes some musical risks and channels them in to a song that has a more reflective, thoughtful tone.

Kayls’ vocals combine seamlessly with the lyrics and dark synth sounds to capture those emotional grey areas we sometimes encounter in life. Talking about the concepts behind the track, Kayls says: “The emotion of Summer is a little bit bitter sweet.

It’s that song about wanting to fight off the inevitable and hold onto a moment in time for as long as possible, all the while knowing that there’s not much you can do to change the fate of the situation.”

The personal nature of the lyrics adds to their intensity, making it feel like she is singing to you and you alone, as each verse adds another layer of naked emotion.

Summer is out now, and you can find out more about streaming and download the track here. It will also feature on her upcoming Modern Savages EP.
