  • New Music: Oleka - City That I'm From

Oleka, a four-piece band from South East London, make dark, modern pop and have released a double A-side single Lights / City That I’m From, via their own Drift City label. They band say they draw inspiration from artists like Actress, Arthur Russell and Solange, creating a sound characterised by soulful vocals, layered percussion and rich, analogue synth melodies; giving their songs a smooth urban feel.

City That I’m From is a dancefloor-oriented track. Starting with an unanswered phone call, the song launches into bass-heavy, driving verses, polished with synth strings and RnB-influenced samples throughout.

The band say the song is about all the times you feel left-out or unwanted, walking at night after leaving a party early or waiting for a phone call that you end up declining. The track and single are now streaming on Spotify, you can find out more streaming and purchasing details here.
