New Music: Rushing Silver – Low Beats

Originally from Denton, Texas but currently living in Paris, Rushing Silver describes herself as a producer, composer and beat maker. Mixing together home recordings, field recordings and other sounds along with her own vocals, she has drawn comparisons to Beth Gibbons, Tune Yards, and Arthur Russell as can be seen of her latest release Low Beats.

Whilst borrowing elements of the John Barry influenced Portishead era, the track takes that inspiration in other directions.

Rather than co-opting the sometime oppressive beats of trip-hop, her sound is more ethereal and at times fragile, with a layer of ambiance combining with haunting vocals and Viktor Bierre’s saxophone to give the listener a sense of remoteness and dislocation.

Low Beats is out now, via Bigo & Twigetti and all major digital outlets.
