New Music: Sail Into Night – Glass

Formed in 2015 by Nabil Qizilbash (guitar, drum machine, vocals) and Zara Mahmood (harmonium, vocals), Sail Into Night are preparing for the sophomore album in early 2019 by releasing the sublime Glass.

The track, which will feature on the follow-up to 2016’s Passenger, shows the band to have once again set their stall out in their unique style, taking elements of alternative rock and qawwali harmonium to come up with an enchanting and beguiling sound.

With a nod to the 60s and the early 90s, nuances of the Velvet Undergound’s drowsy rhythms dovetail in to a more upfront, attitude-laden stance that wouldn’t be amiss on an early Primal Scream classic.

The duo’s vocals serve to heighten the dreamy nature of Glass, giving the listener a feeling of reassurance as each chord reverberates with an unusual but welcome warmth that gets right through to the listener’s soul.
