London-based Irish duo St Francis Hotel has produced the likes of Michael Kiwanuka and Art School Girlfriend recently, as well as releasing a single themselves with Gaz Coombes from Supergrass. This time round they work with TT on the chilled yet chillingly prescient The Truth Is Dead.

With Warpaint’s Theresa Wayman (aka TT) on board, you know something special is going to happen, and The Truth Is Dead doesn’t disappoint on that score. Underpinned by her haunting, unhurried, vocals and a rumbling bassline, the song takes society to task for its calm acceptance of fake news. The song drifts from trip-hop beats to dancehall rhythms, creating an angry, ominous air, even as it offers a suggestion of hope that all is not lost. Next summer, this could be the soundtrack to some very dark times.

The duo had this to say about The Truth Is Dead: “The track’s title is probably pretty self-explanatory as to what it’s about. It feels like the kind of song that could only be written now. If you put the four of us in a room together four years ago, we probably couldn’t have conceived this song. Hopefully in a year’s time people won’t need to write songs with titles like The Truth Is Dead.”

The track is out now and available to stream or download on all major platforms including Spotify. Be sure to check the band out over on Twitter and maybe throw them a follow to keep up with news about the song, upcoming releases and more. The duo’s debut album We Fall Together drops Jan 2020.
