Continuing his mini-reinvention and revelation, Grouch from the upcoming TR/ST album sees Robert Alfons bring new shades and meanings to his already strikingly individual sound.
The track is from The Destroyer – 1 (out 19th April) which sees Alfons and regular collaborator Maya Postepski of Austra introduce some more Industrial, Italo and New Wave nuances to his musical palette.
I’ve commented before how about how he now seems to be letting his voice have a freer reign on the upcoming album, and that’s very much the case on Grouch. It adds layers of vitality and pathos to the lyrics yet doesn’t take away from his classicly majestic, monochromatic style. When your personal and musical persona is very defined by previous releases it can be hard for an artist to develop and move on, but on the face of Grouch, Alfons and TR/ST will take his fans with him on his latest journey. And probably gain a lot more as well.
Robert Alfons will follow the release of both parts of The Destroyer with U.S. and international tour dates throughout 2019, including dates in London and Amsterdam this April – check out his Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds for information.
