New Music: unhappybirthy – Niederung

  • New Music: unhappybirthy - Niederung

To tie in with the group’s new album Schaum, which is out now via tapete Records, German trio unhappybirthday have dropped a third single from the release; the dark and enveloping Niederung.

Reminiscent of Neue Deutsche Welle at times in its fusing of post-punk, new wave and electronic pacing, the brooding sensibility to the track gives it a fresh and upfront quality.

The Hamburg-based trio (Daniel, Tobi and Kim) bring feelings of restrained anger and angst to the fore, entrancing hooks mixing with an air of disappointed and detachment that makes the song feel welcome, despite its focus on the shady side of the musical psyche.

Niederung and Schaum can be streamed on Spotify and other digital outlets – you can find out more, including information on how to order the vinyl and CD version of the albums, here.
