New Music: Vessels – Deflect The Light (Ft. The Flaming Lips)

I have real soft spot for the progressive electronic sounds of Vessels and can’t wait for the upcoming UK tour later this year! Until then, I’ve got new material like Deflect The Light to keep me satisfied. The stunning new track even features a guest appearance from The Flaming Lips.

With lyrics from Wayne Coyne, Deflect The Light washes over you with layers of synths and a pounding bass, resulting in a track that is ethereal and esoteric. It’s a taster the Leeds quintet’s upcoming fourth studio album, The Great Distraction, which is due to be released on 29 September 2017 via Different Recordings. The album features collaborations with the aforementioned The Flaming Lips as well as John Grant, Vincent Neff (Django Django) and Harkin (Sky Larkin).

Pete Wright says of the track: “Working with The Flaming Lips was a highlight of this whole process. There is no facade; Wayne Coyne lives and breathes the very same eccentricity and optimism that pervades The Flaming Lips’ music, and our entire correspondence start to finish has been a torrent of enthusiasm and silliness. They latched on to the spirit of the music we sent and then amplified it a thousand times over, drenching it in their unmistakeable identity but never eclipsing ours. I am so proud of what we made together.”

The Great Distraction is currently up for pre-order and whilst Deflect The Light is already online to stream and download. You can find out more details of the upcoming tour on their website.
