New Music: Victoria Bigelow – Blame

  • New Music: Victoria Bigelow - Blame

The advent of parenthood has probably contributed to the staggering emotional maturity to Blame – the new single from New York state based Victoria Bigelow.

Country music lies in the track – not the bro schmaltz or bland commercialism we hear so much of lately – but more the well-crafted, thoughtful mix of country and rock that artists like Gram Parsons and Emmy Lou Harris pioneered. That’s what gives this particular tune echoes of the golden age of music in the late 60s and early 70s.

Confessional and creative, stark and sharp, its smooth tones serve up a deceptively solid bedrock for lyrics that detail a foundering, failed emotional attachment, but all the while retaining an oddly indie-pop sensibility that ensures the song is both listenable and at times incredibly catchy, even in the more reflective moments.

Blame is Bigelow’s first release in nine years, and will be followed up in early 2019 by the Going Blue EP – be sure to keep and eye on her Facebook and Instagram accounts for more information.
