Ebba and Michel formed Wy in 2015 after several years of playing in bands together. The lovers share a passion for bands such as Daughter, Cigarettes After Sex and Slowdive, something you can hear on the translucent timelessness of Swedish Summer.

With the lived-in vocals reminiscent of Stevie Nicks and Marianne Faithfull, the retro-fitted melancholic euphoria of Swedish Summer helps encapsulates the wonderful duality at the heart of the song and album.

The arrangement feels reassuring, familiar and at times upbeat, but the lyrics occupy an altogether more complex and occasionally darker place, as if reflecting the swirling uncertainties of the mind. That confluence of fragility, strength and emotion creates in Swedish Summer a real and rare thing of beauty. The band say it’s ok to be a softie, and on this evidence they are most certainly right.

Out now via Malmo’s Hybris, Swedish Summer and Softie are also streaming on Spotify and other digital services. Have to say, the vinyl version looks rather lush! Delve in to the world of Wy by heading over to their FacebookTwitter and Instagram accounts.
