Back in August, we covered the ‘sentimental alien dream pop’ of Xelli Island’s (aka Lianna Vanicelli)  02 20 20. She’s made a rapid return to the blog with the spectral sounds of Bad For You – have a listen to the song below.

The song, which is from her debut EP out later this month, has some big Grimes energy in the way both vocalists share an ethereal, timeless quality in the clear, pure tones of the vocal delivery. That fits perfectly with the melange of styles that infuse the genre with a tropical, accessible ambience. 70s pop hooks, tight percussion, and a 50s-referencing melody gives Bad For You a dreamy, yet determined sense of purpose.

She discloses this about the song, “Bad For You is the love song I’ve been wanting to write for years. It captures that sweet spot of falling for someone who you know could eventually break your heart. It’s about putting away your pride and surrendering to the mystery of love and connection. I think it’s really rare to feel completely enamoured with someone, but when you do it’s truly incomparable.”

Bad For You is out now and available to stream or download on all major platforms, including Bandcamp and Spotify. Be sure to check the band out over on Twitter or Instagram, and give her follow or two to keep up with news about the song and the upcoming EP.
