From Apes To Angels are an English synthwave/dreamwave duo from Kent and Sheffield formed by Millie Gaum (vocals) and Andrew Brassleay (synths). With that physical distance in play, it might be no surprise that they’ve released a track called Motorway!

The song takes inspiration from synthwave in terms of its sound, but employs that in a lighter, more human way, giving the song an air of intimacy you also find in bands like Color Theory and The New Division. The lyrics and melody evoke a feeling of sweet melancholy, conveyed with ease by Guam’s delicately poised vocal delivery. On Motorway the duo has shown there’s more to synthwave than recreation and reverence, demonstrating it can be fresh and new in the right hands.
