New Music: Kelly McFarling – Delicate
Originally from Georgia, Atlanta-born Kelly McFarling is now based in the Bay Area of California. The singer/songwriter says she “makes songs for long drives and fault lines.” Watch the video for Delicate to find out what that sounds like.
Delicate will feature on her upcoming LP called Deep the Habit, and she says it sees her return to her roots as a bandleader. It’s a decision that has paid off, as her vocals thrive in a setting where they can bounce off so many combinations of instruments, switching from the rhythm of the percussion to the lead guitar and back, as the vocal melody reflects the band’s tight, slightly 80s take on Americana. It’s a great fit for a voice that is a small part Pat Benetar, a small part Chrissie Hynde, but still very much her own sound.
Catch up with Kelly McFarling on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to discover the person behind the music. You can listen to Delicate and more music from McFarling and her band on Spotify and Apple Music. Deep the Habit is set for release on the 12th of March and can be pre-ordered in CD and vinyl formats on Bandcamp.
McFarling’s band features Tim Marcus on pedal steel, Oscar Westesson on Bass, Nick Cobbett on drums, Andrew Brennan on guitar and Brittany Powers on background vocals.
