New Music: Resa Saffa Park – When Your World Turns

Norwegian singer/songwriter/actor Resa Saffa Park makes a quick return to the blog, courtesy of When Your World Turns. The song is from their intriguingly titled Madness. Let me in! album which was released on the 24th of March.

The song has a debt to the Sunday melancholy sounds of Lana Del Rey, but views that from a very European perspective. The vocals have a smoky quality that put me in mind of Ane Brun and Charlotte Gainsbourg, full of love and pain. Pairing that with an indie meets trip-hop arrangement might sound unusual, but it works so well here and in the context of the 60s and 70s flavour of the album.

Says the artist, “When Your World Turns is a song I wrote about depression, about how it’s a collective problem that affects so many people, but paradoxically enough still is terribly lonely. There’s loneliness in struggling if people around you don’t understand it if they haven’t experienced it themselves (yet), and there is loneliness in being close to someone and struggling simultaneously, because you have enough with yourselves.”

She continues, “Those people who know depression well and have been through it know knows that there is nothing but facilitation they can do. When your inner world is turned upside down, you are completely alone.”
