New Music: Echo of the Low Light – Valley

Echo of the Low Light are based in America’s Pacific Northwest and are centred on duo guitarist/vocalist Kerri Holland and bassist/guitarist Pam Drago. Invited musicians help them create some experimental sounds, such as recent single Valley.

Elements of the sonic territory that Valley maps out for itself may be familiar to fans of the experimental outer reaches of dreampop. The cinematic noir tones of Cigarettes After Sex also echo through the song, especially in the vocals.

The melody and arrangement occupy an almost mystic place however, in between the house style of Beach House or Still Corners and the inward-looking contemplation of 70s Pink Floyd. There’s nothing retro about Valley though, in fact its haunting tones actually carry a timeless air about them.
