New Music: Wild Black – I Miss The High

Wild Black is the solo project of Toronto-based singer-songwriter Elsa Gebremichael. I Miss The High is a bittersweet take on glossy 80s pop with a soul undercurrent in the vocals and lyrics. The fairground-based video was filmed at a childhood haunt, making it an especially nostalgic and personal moment for the artist.

Wistful but allied to a sublime melody, think Madonna and Blood Orange collaborating on a glittering pop bop to get a feel what delight awaits you once you hit play.

Says Gebremichael, “I Miss The High is a dreamy alt pop song I wrote and had the pleasure of co-producing and co-mixing with another artist, musician, producer, engineer and mixer, Isabelle Banos (Ballsy, Caveboy). The song emerged from a moment of self-reflection when I realized I had forgotten what it felt like to be in love. I couldn’t recall the sensation in my body or mind, and the blissful euphoria that often comes with falling in love with someone for the first time had become a distant memory. So, I wrote a song about it.”

I Miss The High is out now to stream on Spotify and download on Bandcamp. It will also feature on the debut Wild Black EP which is set for release early 2024 via Next Door Records.
