New Music: Finom – Haircut

Chicago-based Finom, who are co-fronted by Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart, have dropped featured track Haircut as they prepare for the May release of their new album titled Not God.

Formerly known as Ohmme, the band bases the song around the seemingly everyday concept of getting a haircut, turning that into a mystical and leftfield experience.

Coming off like a marriage between the avant-pop of Of Montreal and the delicious otherworldly yet glamorous tones of Goldfrapp or Kate Bush, Finom thread hook after hook into Haircut, yet leave the song standing outside the mainstream. Inventive and accessible, it is eccentric and a whole lot of fun.

Discloses the band, “Haircut was written following the stream of suggested words from Macie’s phone robot. Somehow this intelligence intuited that we wanted to say ‘no’ more – to control more of our own time.”

“Alex Grelle, one of our favorite artists and collaborators, directed the video for us with a genius group of artists. We were inspired by this strange and beautiful France Gall short film that Jeff and Spencer Tweedy showed us while we were recording.”

Not God is set for release on the 24th of May via Joyful Noise Recordings and can now be pre-ordered in CD and red vinyl formats on Bandcamp. The band sets off on a series of live dates this month, with gigs scheduled through to June.
