New Music: Starcharm – The Color Clear

Chicago-based trio Starcharm certainly know how to make an impact, judging by The Color Clear.

The band’s debut single sets them up to be a band to watch in 2026, as they bring some of the bleakness of 80s post-punk to bear on a richer guitar pop sound. Powered by the minimal/maximal nature of Jasmin Feliciano’s bass line, the track ploughs its own eccentric art-rock course. If you like Sonic Youth, The Breeders, and Lush, keep an eye on Starcharm.

“The Color Clear is inspired by a time when I lost all faith in love and felt like men were seeing me as a projection instead of a real person,” says vocalist/guitarist Elena Buenrostro. “I was going through a bit of nihilistic mania during this time, which I think you can definitely hear. An avoidant attachment anthem, if you will.”

Speaking about the accompanying visualiser, which they directed, drummer Amaya Peña said, “This video felt like my first big baby, which felt fitting as Jasmin and I became co-parents to Lanie’s baby (Starcharm). My goal was to make this video as absurd and true to us as possible, and with a $0 budget, the support of friends made that possible.”
