New Music: AuxVolta – Bad Sector

I’m never quite sure what to make of the bravery of a band that has no social media presence, more so when tracks like Bad Sector deserve to be heard.

Bad Sector becomes an even more unusual proposition given that the track is instrumental, but its accompanying video has a message all of its own. AuxVolta – two London musicians now split between Thailand and Taiwan – make that work by creating a piece of music that works as a standalone concept, but is just as effective at being the soundtrack for a call to arms of sorts.

And what a soundtrack! Beat-driven but far from being dance music, loops and shards of noise bent into complex shapes, Bad Sector is more likely to appeal to fans of David Tibet and Aphex Twin than most, an accretion disc of electronic and industrial elements, stretched and fused into something abstract and cohesive.
