New Music: TIFFY – IRB (feat. Sadie Dupuis)

IRB is a wonderful sign that TIFFY’s I Wanted To Know EP will be a highlight of July’s release schedule.

It’s a bittersweet affair, as TIFFY, who is joined by guest Sadie Dupuis on guitar, takes us somewhere lo-fi and fuzzed out musically, with lyrics that are sharp and self-observant. And as much as that lo-fi attitude drives the track, it’s still tight and tense, partly down to the lyrics – but also the lean, driving textures of the guitars. TIFFY adopts a seemingly casual and relaxed presence at the front of the track, but you’ll not miss the message of IRB, especially if you’ve had moments of angst around doing something you love.

“I wrote this when I felt very burnt out by playing music and being in a band,” says TIFFY. There’s that saying, ‘Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life’ well that’s just not true!”

She continues, “I love making music and performing, but it is work and energy you expend. All the minutiae just fried me. There’s another famous saying, ‘Write what you know’ well most of what I know is being in a band.”

I Wanted To Know is out Friday, 10th of July, via Repeating Cloud and Totally Real Records and will be available in download and cassette formats.
