New Music: The Race – Best Is Yet To Come

Ahead of the release of a new EP, Reading-based quintet The Race have shared the moody indie rock of Best Is Yet To Come.

If the best is indeed yet to come, then the FAMILY EP will be one to watch out for if you’re a fan of indie music that carries strong emotional themes and a desire to entertain, and connect with, the listener. After a gap of sixteen years to raise their families, The Race shake off the passage of time here, while still marking it within the lyrics.

The band’s Be Your Alibi and In My Head It Works albums saw them compared to the likes of U2 and Arcade Fire, music that is personal and anthemic. Best Is Yet To Come is restrained by comparison – the vocals have softened yet still have the power to lift your soul; energising your spirit, creating a sense of hope for the present and future.

It’s comforting when you know you’re not alone, that someone is there for you, and as ageless as the track sounds, that feeling is timeless and priceless. I’d venture that the current incarnation of the band is likely to appeal to fans of Broken Social Scene and Frightened Rabbit – and that’s about as good as indie music gets for me. I’m certain that they will once again be gracing the stages of Reading, Truck, and many more festivals in the coming years.

Talking about the track, the band says it was “inspired by seeing friends and family go through the inevitable ups and downs of life. Wanting to see them in a happier, more peaceful place and the hope that the depth and quality of friendships old and new can truly mean that the best is yet to come.”
