New Music: 2:19 Special – Run
Cornish duo 2:19 Special look to the east and the west to give Run from their upcoming Happy Fly EP its motorik heart.
The Falmouth-based band don’t hide their love for leftfield music genres of the 70s and 80s here and throughout the EP. I suspect that band members Mark Arend and Vicky Gilbert might have a fondness for California’s Sparks, judging by the analogue-vibing synths and the nonchalantly vampish delivery of the vocals.
Run also looks to the Krautrock scene for its undulating rhythms: not quite as rock-focused as Amon Düül II’s Yeti or as clean and focused as NEU!’s Hallogallo, instead finding a niche, almost psych spot between the two. Hit the repeat button on Run, and let your mind wander within its grooves.
You can catch 2:19 Special in their hometown, Falmouth, on the 24th of October as they support The Stanford Family Band at Dynamite Valley Taproom courtesy of Kernowbeat.

Happy Fly is also out on the 24th of October, and a ten-inch version of the four-song EP can be pre-ordered via Krautpop! on Bandcamp. Head to Instagram and connect with 2:19 Special for EP updates and news on upcoming gigs, including London on the 27th of November.
