New Music: Afgan – Escape ft. Jessi

Afgan is one of Asia’s biggest stars and has now teamed up with American K-pop behemoth Jessi on Escape. The song features on Afgan’s five song album, Sonder. The accompanying video was filmed in Bali.

A summery and sensual take on K-pop and RNB, the arrangement’s light confection drives the song along, even as the lyrics explore matters of the heart in a forthright yet fun manner. Jessi brings her passion for performance into play on both the song and video, showing what makes her and Afgan such an explosive and enjoyable pairing.

Says Afgan about what the song and album mean to him, “I’ve come so far and have grown and experienced so much. I didn’t have a say back then on how I wanted my music to be. I was controlled by the market, by what people expected me to be. I really didn’t have the confidence to speak out.”

That’s the direction I want to go with my artistry: I want to be more honest. I don’t want to fit in a box and stay in that box forever, because it’s comfortable for everyone.
