Album Review: looking for a shoegaze drummer – sounds for bunnis and other animals and such (ok for humans)

The musical equivalent of Everything Everywhere All at Once but set at a blood rave, the new EP from looking for a shoegaze drummer hits hard, fast, and wild.

There’s an unexpected fluidity to the glitchy, avant-garde industrial, and hyperpop textures of each of the tracks on sounds for bunnis and other animals and such (ok for humans) – the best name for a release I’ve heard in years – that defies description and, quite often, logic.

Some of the tracks, like i’m just starting to understand everything, and time 3 forget 3, are fashioned from the artist’s own soundpack; others, as in the case of the whirr pt.1, from found sounds like a blender; and album closer people (ok) from modular hardware.

There’s no easy way to condense the album into a pithy phrase or pitch, but if you want to hear someone go from 100 gecs to SOPHIE via Whitehouse and Throbbing Gristle and back in a raucous, circuitous – and very enjoyable – way, then this is where you start. This bunni is making music for herself, but is definitely an artist to watch in 2026, making sonic chaos that is well worth spending time with to absorb and learn to comprehend.
