New Music: Amiture Music – Idela (Feat. Eliana Glass)

With their 2 Women EP out at the end of the month, Amiture Music get rather mystical on Idela.

Co-written by Amiture Music’s Jack Whitescarver and guest vocalist Eliana Glass, Idela is sweetly mystifying in how it rewrites the preconceptions you may have of post-rock. It does maintain contact with the textures and atmospheres that occur within the genre, yet the vocals of Whitescarver and Glass subtly undermine that.

Imagine David Byrne and Lætitia Sadier swirling around each other, always keeping a dreamy tension and changing distance, as the track goes from minimal to maximal. It’s not cinematic: you’re not going to hear Idela on the big screen. Those mystery/detective series when night, snow, and mounting unease set the pace – well yeah, that’s where you’ll find it.

“We composed Idela as an instrumental song before asking Eliana if she’d like to sing on it,” says Whitescarver. “She wrote all the lyrics with intense and striking associations that came to her from the sound of the track.”

“The process was magical, and it only made sense to attempt to replicate it with the video. Eliana and I started with an image of a woman swimming in an indoor pool and worked backwards. I liked how many uncomfortable places you could get with a camera as small as a GoPro. It was cathartic to bring such a satisfying collaboration to life through image.”

2 Women is set for release on the 30th of October via Dots Per Inch Music – it’s now up for pre-order on Bandcamp. You can get all the latest EP and band updates on Amiture Music’s Facebook and Instagram socials.
