New Music: &Tilly x UAP – How Loud Is No Sound
There’s nothing borderline decision about how good How Loud Is No Sound, a collab between electro-poppers &Tilly and analogue synth outfit UAP is.
My bad pun (no apologies, I’m afraid!) gives a hint as to what I loved so much about the track. Though the vocals of &Tilly are richer in tone and more emotionally expressive than vintage Madonna, you can hear something of her early work in the hooks and melody.
There’s also filigrees of Italo, and the Pet Shop Boys at their late-80s height, but that is filtered through a fresh and clean production that relegates the nostalgic tones to the perceptible background. Basically, it’s a total bop. If you like CHVRCHES, Parallels, and yes, early Madonna, add this to your pop playlists.
As &Tilly reveals, “We wanted the song to feel really retro and relatable, melodically, but I couldn’t stop myself from pouring in a bit of my signature ‘heaviness of the world’ into the lyrics.”
“It ended up being the kind of bright, infectious track you’ll want to sing out loud, even with its slightly darker side.”
How Loud Is No Sound can be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music, while the song is available to download over on Bandcamp. Be sure to follow &Tilly and UAP to keep track of their solo endeavours.
