New Music: Asha Jefferies – Brand New Bitch

Once you hear the indie-infused queer anthem in the making that is Brand New Bitch, you know why Brisbane artist Asha Jeffries has picked up prestigious slots at SXSW and The Great Escape.

The track marks a step in Jeffries finding her own place in the world as a queer woman. The song, which will feature on Jeffries upcoming Ego Ride debut album, marries an alt.rock energy to a very pop sensibility.

Immediate musical references Tom Petty, Olivia Rodrigo, and Soccer Mommy, but you can hear that being filtered through a listener-friendly Britpop filter, as Jeffries aims for your heart, and possibly the charts.

Discloses Jeffries about the album, “It is a story written and dedicated to my younger self, that the meter of your world will keep on running and there is hope to be had. These songs have a fundamentally ‘together’ feeling made possible by the collaboration between my band and (album producer and engineer) Sam Cromack.”

She adds, “All songs were recorded live together in one room and the sound of the album shapeshifts from indie pop to piano ballad to psychedelic indie rock to folktronica.”
