RobinAugust wrote Boy Obsessed at the age of 8 with her childhood friend Mercy Sophia. She spent part of her teens as a member of Nashville-based Queens of Noise, but the two have revisited the song from an adult perspective after a 30-second clip of the track garnered over two million views on TikTok.

Loud and fun with lyrics that cut right to the bone, Boy Obsessed is a bruising rock-infused musical rollercoaster. The main musical influence is one of a riot grrrl in terms of the aesthetic of the arrangement and the attitude of the vocals, but it’s fused with a furiously gritty take on The Runaways and Queens of Noise that will bowl you over. One for fans of Bratmobile, Le Tigre, and Bikini Kill

“I wrote the chorus backstage of a play I was in because I was jealous that my friend was getting all the guys,” says RobinAugust about Boy Obsessed. “I was listening to a lot of chick rock, riot grrrl, at the time, and I was like, ‘This would be a perfect way to write like those people.’ I brought it to Mercy and was like, ‘I just made this awesome chorus. Would you help me write the rest?’”
