New Music: byebye99 – skytrace

Their second single since byebye99’s formation in 2024, skytrace has a beat-heavy take on shoegaze that is easy to love.

Compared to back to you, their debut back in August ’25, skytrace progresses their sound, and mixes it up a bit too. The vocals remain enraptured as if just waking from a midday daydream, warm yet removed. Not aloof in style, more above any worries and fears, content in their own existence.

Comprising a pair of Los Angeles musicians known only as Dylan and Danny, byebye99 expand on the 90s Slowdive-meets-MBV tones of back to you. On skytrace, they still have a role; however.

The percussion is borrowed from the chilled end of trip-hop, and the guitars head to harder ground, looking at the shadows in a way that MBV fans will appreciate. All the while is still retains the hazy charm that made their first single glisten in the sun. With an EP in the works, now is a good time to get in on the ground floor with byebye99, because I fully expect them to rise high.
