New Music: Chloe Rodgers – Coins for Charon
In December last year, we covered the classically inspired Baroque pop track The Algea from Nottingham musician Chloe Rodgers. She returns with a song in a similar vein, as Nordic melancholy meets Greek mythology on Coins for Charon.
It’s a song of many parts, all held together by Rodgers’ flawless, fluid vocal delivery. It wraps around a melody and arrangement that switch from folk-infused Baroque pop to trip-hop beats and back, giving them a sense of unity and purpose even in the song’s quieter moments.
Speaking about the new single, Rodgers says, “Coins for Charon was written by Anders Källmark (who she works with as part of Twenty Committee), and Nick van Hofwegan, AKA Young & Sick. It’s about losing someone you love. I do like the track. The dynamic change and percussion in the chorus was a good call, and the drummer (Giovanni Velez) is a genius.”
Coins for Charon by Chloe Rodgers is out now via the Crowds and Power record label. You can listen to the song on all major streaming outlets, such as Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Spotify.
