New Music: Club 8 – Don’t Cry Baby, It’s Only A Film

For Swedish indie duo Club 8 every day seems to be the first day of summer, with freshly-minted guitar pop playing sweetly in the background.

Don’t Cry Baby, It’s Only A Film leans into nostalgia for sure, and it also almost shares a title with an album of seminal covers from the 90s by British indie band, Television Personalities.

Club 8 aren’t quite as punk-aligned as that LP, nor as experimental, but they consistently produce top-drawer indie music with clever lyrics and hook-filled melodies. If liking the resulting bops makes me a nostalgia beast, then so be it.
