New Music: Corvair – Wrong Again

It’s a welcome return to the blog for Corvair with Wrong Again, the latest single from the band’s recently released album, Bound to Be. The nature-focused, occasionally ghostly accompanying video was filmed in and around the band’s Portland, Oregan base.

It shows a different side to the band while retaining the dreampop/indie-pop sound that defines the album. While the song is influenced by 60s rock licks and 70s soft rock harmonies, the mood set by Heather Larimer’s vocals, at once bleak and beautiful, draws it into a more modern narrative.

Says vocalist Heather Larimer about Wrong Again, “It was one of the last songs we wrote for Bound to Be, and I wasn’t sure it was viable, because it felt too vulnerable. But Brian picked it up and made it real.”

Adds Corvair guitarist and vocalist Brian Naubert, “It was an interesting challenge to not smother what makes the song so beautiful—I usually like to layer on a lot of parts, and I had to fight that urge.”

He continues, “Having Mike (Mike Musburger, well known for his work with Fastbacks and The Posies), who is such a powerful drummer, be more Ringoesque, was also a fun experiment.”
