New Music: crab – Unlimited
Brooklyn’s crab return a year after their fabulously named ApeApeApeApeApe EP with the rousing alt-rock of Unlimited.
Where the EP was more in tune with a math rock and experimental electronic aesthetic, Unlimited isn’t so much a reaction to that, more of a stripping down of their sound to its indie influences.
That move away from electronica and esoterica towards shoegaze and indie rock doesn’t make Unlimited conventional guitar-focused music, however. It retains a math rock rhythm, with the song having a lo-fi quality that still allows the listener to pick up the various strands within the arrangement. I bet this is fun to play live – and see in a live setting too!
The band has revealed that Unlimited is the first single from their relationship with Stephen Kurpis of Vitruvian Sound, and I have to say, I look forward to hearing more of it in the coming months.
Unlimited and ApeApeApeApeApe can be heard on Bandcamp and Spotify – for updates from carb, head to their Instagram account.
