New Music: drifting. – cavehill

Hailing from Milwaukee in Wisconsin, life has led John Drifter aka drifting. both to Ireland to live and shoegaze / dream pop to express his artistic drive.

New single cavehill – named after an iconic and scenic location in Belfast – has a rugged and windswept quality to it – unusual for a track so informed by shoegaze and dream pop in terms of its arrangement.

What also sets it apart is its frank discussion of sex and sexuality, evoking thoughts of Death in Venice in the way it looks at consuming desires that are possibly unlikely to ever be realised.

“It captures the ache of a fleeting connection, going on a hike with a guy in an open relationship, knowing it’ll never turn into something more,” says the Dublin-based musician.

“A song for the hopeless romantics – queer, straight, or anywhere in between – who find beauty in bittersweet moments.”
