New Music: Ellyn Woods – White Sails

White Sails sees in Montréal-based singer-songwriter Ellyn Woods continue her successful series of collaborations with fellow Montréal residents, electronic duo Sterling Grove. This tune is sure to be popping up in summer playlists in the coming months.

There’s a wonderfully chilled yet hypnotic quality to White Sails, evoking the heyday of the Balearic early morning sound, moments where the sea and soul are calm. It doesn’t hide its electronic, almost clubby ambience, rather, it embraces it. But Wood’s vocals bring a shimmering and sensual sheen to the track, bringing the song from the early morning to the burning, dazzling noonday sun.

Woods says on the song, “On a midsummer day after the beach, I felt inspired by the light shining through the cabin windows and the wooden model of a ship on the wall. I wrote about our surroundings and summer road trips, and soon the whole song was composed in about 15 minutes. We kept an open mind – no rules, no questioning any type of genre or riff. All ideas were made subconsciously, capturing the emotion in the room.”
